They say: ”No man is an island”. As such SAIMechE has a long-standing tradition of remaining in close contact with other bodies in our industry. We would therefore like to take this opportunity to encourage our members to enter the SEIFSA (Steel and Engineering Industries Federation SA) Awards for Excellence.
It is in all of our interests to support the upskilling and training of the vital artisans who form the backbone of our industry. Seifsa’s Artisan Award is presented to a company that has the highest activity in artisan training each year to benefit in-house needs and the industry at large.
In a country with high levels of youth unemployment, artisan development has long been seen as one of the solutions to address this challenge while contributing to efforts to rebuild the economy supported by a skilled workforce.
We agree with SEIFSA CEO Kaizer Nyatsumba who says, “Engineers and artisans will be the ones at the coalface in order to ensure a successful economic recovery.”
Mechanical engineers, mechanical technologists and all those in allied fields rely on a strong and skilled artisan base. Let’s see them celebrated!
